A Cause, Some Cardboard, and a Creative Mind

Express what homelessness means to you.  Design a shelter that exhibits the following criteria:
+    Educational theme regarding homelessness
+    Creativity
+    Comfort
+    Livability

Keep in mind that in addition to promoting awareness of homelessness, your box should be as comfortable as possible for you to spend the night.  Bring a tarp to put under (or over) your box shelter in case of inclement weather.

To ensure we have enough room on the field for all campers, we do ask that shelters be kept to 150 sq. feet or less. If you plan to create a structure larger than 150 sq. feet, please email proposed plans to tnicol@yss.ames.ia.us for approval.

All entry forms must be received by 7:00 p.m. in order to be eligible for the contest.  You will receive a number to attach to your shelter.  Bring the finished design to the stadium or create your box design at the stadium.

Judging will take place starting at 8:00 p.m. with the winners announced at or around 10:00 p.m. at the Entertainment Stage north of the field.

Pictures of the winning entries and their “stories” will be posted on the Nationwide Insurance Boxed-In Design Award Board in the Field House following the presentation of awards and certificates.
You are required to construct the shelter out of acceptable materials listed below.  DO NOT CONTRUCT YOUR SHELTER OUT OF THE UNACCEPTABLE MATERIALS LISTED BELOW.  Your entry will be disqualified.  We are partnering with Drake University and we want to ensure we take proper care of the stadium turf.
